Worship Ministries
There are many ways to help with worship at First Lutheran, both behind the scenes and in the spotlight! Contact the office if you are interested in volunteering. Training is provided.
Acolytes
Catechism-age youth serve as acolytes at the 10:30 service. Acolytes light and extinguish the candles, and assist the ministers during processions, baptisms, etc.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is the caretaker of the altar and its related items. On Saturdays, guild members prepare the church for worship, and on Sundays members clean up and transition between services. The Altar Guild also has regular meetings, and periodic cleaning days.
Anointers
On the first Sunday of the month volunteers offer prayers for healing and annointing with oil during worship.
Assisting Ministers
A lay person serves as assisting minister at the 10:30 service. The assisting minister offers prayers, helps to serve communion, and assists the pastors in any other ways needed.
Communion Assistants
Communion assistans help to serve communion at both services.
Hymn Selection Group
Hymns are selected by a group consisting of the Director of Music, Worship Committee members, and other interested lay people.
Readers
Lay volunteers read the first two Scripture readings of the service.
Ushers
Ushers serve at the 10:30 service by greeting people, handing out bulletins, and collecting the offering.
